We just got these photos from Mrs. H. The scans aren't great, but you get the idea. Wednesday, October 29, 2008
Cold
Had some good workouts this morning: treadmill & swim. It has been awhile since I've run on the treadmill since I've been doing most of my runs outside on the carriage roads. It wasn't bad though. By the time I was finished, I was starved, so Karl and I stopped by Hector's Cafe in the meatpacking district. and I mean IN the meatpacking district. right next to the meat hooks. Surprisingly, it is still there even though just about everything around it has been turned into some super high end luxury store or hotel. The place was packed with real workers getting big plates of lunch. I got a hot chocolate, big egg sang and a chocolate chip cookie, all for under $5. I hope this place weathers the storm.

Rainy
Today we are experiencing a "soaking" rain in NYC. Totally wet...and cold. I managed to run to the gym, swim, and run home. Next, I'm gearing up for a wet ride to Cadence so that I can ride on the trainer. In the meantime, I'm making kale & potato cakes for dinner. One of the many items we picked up from the CSA this weekend was a kale tree. Yep a full on kale stalk. It is huge and if we eat it all we might turn into kale, that is if we force it down before it turns.
Last night we made a Monday night fun by going out to Spice Market for dinner. We received a generous gift card from Nick, Vic, Fiona & Lynn as a thank you for staying in our apartment during the wedding weekend. It was a fun dinner, followed by a fun Wii session at home afterwards. SJ's is a natural or maybe it is the hours he spent playing pong (or some other first generation video game) instead of going to class while at univeristy. Supposedly, he scheduled two classes at once to make it possible to skip two classes at the same time. And, these were engineering classes at a really good school.
Time to motivate for that wet bike ride.

Fall Weekend
Our first full fall weekend at rose lane was a big success. We had a huge rainstorm, 8 guests, hours of climbing on the rock wall, farmers market meals and a sunday night stay over. The only thing pulling me back to the city is the pool at chelsea piers. I NEED to swim and the pool here at SUNY New Paltz has not improved since the day the "heater was broken." My swim there on saturday was a 2500y wetsuit swim where my times were way slower than not wearing a wetsuit. It is an acceptable situation for an easy swim day but that's about it, for now. If I got in there with the swim team, maybe I could motivate to swim fast.
Other than that, I got in some great runs here over the weekend. Phil and I ran 60 min. in Mohonk on Sunday. He's racing the NYC marathon on sunday, so we didn't push it too hard. On Sunday, I did a hard tempo workout up Lenape. Hunting season has started and I saw more than one guy in camo with the whole bow and arrow set up (it is only bow season, for now). I decided to wear blaze blue because the leaves are still so bright that blaze orange wouldn't really stand out.
Time for one last ride before heading back to the city.

Living Room
Today while I was waiting for the cable guy, I tested out living in the living room. To my surprise it was a great spot to put the feet up, read the paper and look out the huge windows. We're still working on the furnishings and decor. These pillows are nice but don't really match the chairs, maybe that's a good thing? The wood blocks were supposed to go in a different room but they were too heavy to move, so we left them there for the time being until we find a different coffee table. The decoy belonged to grandpop, of course.
We Have Cable!!
and internet and phone!!! Finally. I am now back in touch and will be able to answer emails and phone calls and voice mail. And, more importantly, I can blog again. Especially with this huge new mac computer. Today was a bit of a waste. I had to wait here for the cable guys and then wait here while they worked. At least I was able to get in a trainer ride while I was a waiting. It was a good ride too. My second in the new home gym. This place is really starting to shape up. Now, if I could only get myself in shape!! Actually, despite the 2 weeks off, I think I'm doing ok on that front. I've done 3 runs in mohonk, including a workout up lenape yesterday.
My next project is to figure out how to download pictures from the honeymoon!!

We're Back!!!!!!!!!
The wedding weekend was great and so was the honeymoon! 6 days in Turks & Caicos (the island of Provo) where we dropped all things work related and played and relaxed only. For SJ this was probably one of the toughest weeks to ignore work, but he did it. Now it is back to work for both of us. I'm headed to the gym now for the first time in over 2 weeks. Starting easy with a pilates class.
